Pretty good movie with great effects and musical score. Also very good symbolism used. Great musical, definitly worth watching again.
I really enjoyed this movie, and had I been more awake at the time of writing this review I could explain the true greatness of this movie. Save one part (the character Prudence) I love every part of this movie and everything from the animation to the choreography is extremely pleasing to the eye and just a wonderful romantic story. Definitely one of the years best.
This movie was amazing. I loved it. The music in it was beautiful. The Beatles are awesome. My favorite songs in the movie were All My Loving, A Little Help From My Friends, Revolution, Strawberry Feild Forever, Hey Jude, and Across The Universe. These songs were amamzing. Beautiful movie. I will watch it again.
I really find this movie a work of art but some parts are really annoying, although all in all it was a great movie
Being a huge Beatle fan I was really disappointed in this movie. The story is weak and the covers of the songs are not as good as the originals. I would stay this film is a failed interesting idea.
Astounding soundtrack, exceptional art direction and costume design. The problem lies with how they utilized the songs. Not everyone made good renditions, and the musical numbers just won't find a place in the story, making the plot sound silly as ever.
Some of the songs aren't as friendly to the originals as they should be, but it's understandable that they took liberties. The story isn't really anything new, but the visuals are amazing. The whole film is a work of art, really.
this movie is awesome. i never truly appreciated the beatles music until i saw this. it is something different. a must see!!!
A beautiful love story set in the 1960's, lovely performances from Evan Rachel Wood and Jimmy Sturgess, and a soundtrack full of Beatles songs make this film worth watching.
Beautiful movie! The songs wer well done. The acting was superb. I love strawberries and how they can represent so much <3.
strawberry fields forever.
I am a Beatles fan, and generally a musical fan. So, I liked this movie. The love story in the movie was well played out. I enjoyed the bright vivid colors, and the kind of psychedelic vibe running through the movie. I enjoy Julie Taymor's style of things, even if at times, some would consider it to be a bit imbecilic. Then again, I also kind of enjoyed her version of Titus, with Anthony Hopkins.
I can say one thing that genuinely bothered me about this film, was some of the adaptations of the songs. In my mind, the Beatles are a true classic of Rock and Roll. Sometimes, when you rearrange the brilliance of John and Paul, the result can be less then stellar.
I was pleasantly surprised this movie was so good. Although i was disappointed by Bono's performance.
Probably the best soundtrack I have ever heard in a movie! I had the feeling I was watching a very long Peter Gabriel music video seeing all these special effects and colours! But it was a good way to show the doped hippie generation. Jim Sturgess was perfect in the main role, as he has the looks of a very young Paul McCartney. The entire cast in fact had beautiful voices and you certainly don't want to miss the appearance of a hippie Joe Cocker! Great movie!
Without going too deep into analysis, the whole movie really plays as a loosely-connected series of extended Beatles music videos. And that works just fine. The only flaw the movie has is trying to fit all of these songs from throughout the Beatles catalogue into a cohesive story. Sometimes it feels forced, and deciding on one over the other (a more tightly-written story, vs. more eclectic song choices) may have made the film hit home a little more.
But despite that flaw, the movie is really entertaining. The music is phenomenal, and really how could it not be considering the source material? If you are even a casual Beatles fan, there will be something for you to enjoy...my personal favorite being the absolutely gut-wrenching rendition of "Let it Be" - my favorite Beatles track.
So see "Across the Universe", and take from it what you will.
Oh, and Bono has a cameo so terrible that it throws the whole movie off-track for 15 minutes or so, and threatens to ruin it altogether. Fucking Bono.
This was the 2nd time I sat down to watch it. The 1st time I just couldn't get into it and fell asleep. This time I was I was forced to watch it, and I'm glad I was because I really enjoyed it. Great movie if you want to excape from your own life for a couple of hours and act like you're part of the fantasy. I sang along with every song. Thank God my daughter was the only one that heard me!!!
The song parts were good. In fact I liked the actual soundtrack better than the movie itself. The plot kind of dragged. It wasn't your typical musical. Had this come out 10 or 20 years ago I might have been more impressed.
Jim Sturgess and Evan Rachel Wood did such an amazing job in this movie! Gotta love Joe Anderson as Max too!
This is one of those musicals that my girlfriend made me watch that I actually liked. That doesn't happen very often, but this one was actually well done. The way they incorporated all the Beatles' songs into the movie was awesome. My favorite scene is when Bono sings I Am The Walrus. That was a treat. This is a great movie that everyone should at least give a chance.
Across the Universe was the best musical I have ever seen. It wove classic Beatles songs into an engaging story about love during a fascinating period of American history.
Thank you Julie Taymor for butchering all of my favorite Beatles songs. Their songs should not become visuals. Their songs should stay in your head and you should have your own mental picture of what the songs mean and you can interpret them in your own way. With this, the visuals were blown out of proportion and a lot of the singers weren't even good, such as Eddie Izzard and Joe Anderson. The only people who I felt actually did the songs justice were Joe Cocker and Evan Rachel Wood. Other than that, it was just a Baz Luhrman wanna be butcher of some of the greatest songs in history. Do not see this film if you are Beatles fan. It will be incredibly disappointing.
"Across The Universe" is a song by The Beatles that first appeared on a charity release in December 1969, and later, in modified form, on their final album, Let It Be. The song features John Lennon singing lead, who is also the composer (though, as with all Beatles songs written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney, alone or in collaboration, the song is credited to Lennon/McCartney).
Across the Universe is also a 2007 musical film directed by Julie Taymor, produced by Revolution Studios, and distributed by Columbia Pictures. It was released in the United States on October 12, 2007. The script is based on an original story credited to Taymor, Dick Clement, and Ian La Frenais that incorporates 33 compositions written by members of The Beatles.
Opening to mixed reviews, Across the Universe was nominated for both a Golden Globe and an Academy Award. Two members of the supporting cast performed as part of a special Beatles tribute at the 50th Grammy Awards.
Horrible...
The movie plot is OK, but I grew up with the Beatles, and can sing along with many of the songs, so I quite enjoyed this movie. I will watch it again if it comes up on TV again.

I LOOOOOOOOOOVED This movie and i like their twist on the beatles music they did, the voices and music are so much better than the how the original beatles did it. no matter what other ppl. might say. it's inspirational even cause of the time period and what was going on and now whats going its good!!
This movie is amazing...... One of the best movies I've ever seen...... I totally recomend it
i liked the beatles songs more than the movie. the movie is a little bit weird.
i have an obsession with this movie
it's beautiful, exlilerateing and fun i've seen it 5 times!!!!
i wish the filmmakers and actors had 1% of what made the beatles great. but dumb kids who don't actually understand beatles music are sure to love this cash machine with the beatles name pressed so neatly on the cover
it is the one of the most beatiful movies i have seen and it is so romantic and the beatles make this film amazing to see again and again!!!!!!
I've been listening to the beatles since I was born, and to me this movie has great performances, good choice of vocals and the scenes are very moving. I loved it.
The best fuckin movie of all time!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can not get enough of it!
"NOT a musical.. NOT a movie" This whole whatever it was.. was everywhere and to me didn't make a lot of sense. The only part I did like and the song was "Let It Be". Don't get me wrong I do like the Beatles but thats all this film had to offer. It was very artsy in most parts and it was like watching songs being reborn into film. The scenes themselves did not follow through or have a pattern with the characters. The whole of the movie was one big Beatles tribute. I was sadden for this film because I actually thought it would be enjoyable. 2 stars
