Not really my kind of movie, but I thought it was great. Little Olive is the cutest, and the dance at the end is hilarious!
Fantastic movie!, and touching. The cast is superb, everyone is giving a great performance, specially Abigail Breslin, she is amazing... The script is very original, smart and funny, perfect!, the direction is great too.-
An amazing and genuine dramedy filled with incredible, heartfelt characters and a surprising honesty on true dysfunctional families. A surprising classic.
that scene when he finds out where hes color blind, and the lil sister puts her arm on his shoulder... is gold
Davvero niente male. Non un film straordinario d'accordo, ma la narrazione è buona e gli attori pure. Il nonno poi è troppo forte! Peccato per.. :)
I thought it was pretty good. I didn't find it funny at all, but the characters (stereotypes as they were) had a certain appeal to them. I liked the relationships the suicidal brother had with his sister and nephew, and the rebellious pageant technician was a nice touch. They're all clichés, but I guess it's the delivery that counts.
after minute:
it's so crazy , overwhelming and as funny as ever and it's still high quality. The Review
Story : A family full of wierdness and watchable view for audience.
It's way too crazy ,unique, unpredictable and FUNNY yet has quality and drama which is so dramatic but the movie ended the drama itself with heartwarming way ,eventhough (for me) it's a bit' boring because of the colour and the setting.
Directing & Cinematography : Nice and simple , just like this year favorite , Juno , little miss sunshine give you a different "dry" drama and inplicit comedy .
Setting : Well ,to be honest , i am quite an anti-"dry" panorama , with that "Dry" California view , it's make me as sleepy as ever .
Script : Simply cute and unique and it does match the wierd family dialogues , it's heartwarming.
Casting :
Abilgail Breslin did her role simple , wierd , lively and cute . She's surely a little girl with BIG talent. Steve Carrel as the homo uncle . He did his role as usual , less-talking , less-expression ,serious but there's still things to laugh about him . But , i never expect that he could act like that , as a homo , it's a innovation for his acting career (He looked as natural as Ellen DeGeneres) . Paul Dano as the mute-guy , he acted just way above another teens acting skill ,he's just two steps behind Ellen Page and he's the most dramatic boy-in-movie i've ever seen. Allan Arkin as the grandpa , is the drama character here . Toni Collete as the mum , i saw her character not as protrude as the other character in this sunny movie . But , she did her role well and still made the movie lively .
Overall :
a moving comedy with heartwarming drama and crazy story with unique characters . It is the most heartwarming movie of the year.
+ original film
+ very funny and a bit touching at the same time
+ good performance of Steve Carell (usually I dislike his style of acting)
a pleasantly enjoyable film that provokes individuals to team together, cast aside differences, and focus on the real prize: family
This reminds me of the National Lampoon Vacation movies...the one where they go to Wally World. Only thing missing was the dog. LOL
It was a silly and cute story that shows that no matter how much of a loser you think you are, being happy doesn't have to depend on your being successful!!!
It was fun to watch and I will probably watch it again, but I won't buy it.
I liked the actors in the movie a lot. I like how the movie was made a lot and I thought it was funny.
-I want to dedicate this performance to my granpa.
-oh yes sweety? Where's your granpa
-In the truck of our van
loved the family, the characters, the beliefs
I love simple films like this one. They're a great testament that a good movie doesn't always have to be over-the-top special effects wise.
This movie is so crazy that it seems truly weird. We've all been there with the weird family thing. I just fell in love with silent Dwayne (Paul Dano) and absolutely laughed to tears at the part where the entire family gets up on stage and dance like crazy.
A truly brilliant and inspiring film!!
A great road movie with a nice blend of dark humor and serious drama. At times I didn't know whether to feel depressed or laugh my head off. The cast and acting are perfect, and I mean absolutely perfect. The biggest flaw here? It's just a smidge too cutesy. Other than that, it's a brilliant off-the-wall soon-to-be indie classic.
i love Dwayne..his silence says a lot about his persistence.
Abigail Breslin is very cute and adorable esp. in the diner scene, when his father told her not to eat ice cream.
But my favorite is when all of the family start dancing with Olive on the stage.
It was hilarious..
Quirky indie comedies, even the ones with Alan Arkin in them, nauseate me in varying degrees depending on the level of undue hype they've received.
A very good film. Hilarious. Abigal Breslin deserved the oscar for this film. The acting is everything I wanted and was expecting and the writing was incredible. Definetly a must-see. 5/5
Another dysfunctional family brought together by a journey where everything seems to go wrong. A black comedy with enough natural humour to make it feel realist and something the viewer can relate to.
I think this one may go on my list of favorites. I enjoyed this film a lot. I loved all the characters and it was casted very well. One actor in particular that pleasantly surprised me in this one is Steve Carell. Usually he's typecasted as a goofy ass spaz, but in this one, he was the TOTAL opposite. I was very pleased to see something more from Carell.
Again, like I think I said in my In Bruges review, this is another film where the trailer deceives you from the true mood of the film. This film was way more dramatic than funny. Like... the whole movie up until the last half hour of it had a LOT of heavy drama with tiny sprinkles of comedy in between. But the last like... 30-40 mins of the film was pure hilariousness and had a cute ending.
Great film, very well written, well casted. I enjoyed it and I think a lot of others would too.
This is brilliant. The characters were so believable, the dialogue so great... everything about the film is stunning. I've watched it more times than I can count.
A lighthearted and funny tale that pays off well in the end. A nice little film, but I wanted to see more of the conflict between the family before they got on their merry way to Cali.
Funny, sad, and over all very well done; pefect telling of "weird families," or at least, how we can perceive our own as weird. In the end, families are families, and they all have their quirks.
there was a lot of hype for this movie, i dont know what it was all about. the movie is cute but only so so

An amazing comedy. A bunch of losers who happen to be family, perfect! Heartwarming and yous plain great.
WOW..where do i begin? lol. this movie is by far the best one ive seen all year. i actually bought it and i dont buy movies like ever. and the only reason i watch it is to see Paul Dano. yep he is handsome..i'll say that much.
so do yourself a favor and see this movie!
It is a movie for all of the underdogs out there! I rented this and when I went back I bought it!
ive made so many ppl watch it and they loved it too, it's so bitter sweet and real in a way
